[comp.sys.apple] GIF files for Apple2's

dbainbri@bonnie.ics.uci.edu (David Bainbridge) (05/12/89)

Does anyone know of a program that allows the apple \\c to view
GIF files? I realize the resolution difference, but even a
scaled down version of a gif file would be nice.

The program you are looking for is IIGIF, a type SYS program that will create
single and double hi-res graphics with color or without. Note that there is
an apparent bug in IIGIF that causes weird problems to occur when reading
from a 3.5" drive. Fortunatly, Ralph P. Carpenter has sent me a patched
version (thanks again, Ralph!) that will work correctly with the //c. I don't
know if this problem extends to other apple using 3.5" drives. You should
be able to get the normal IIGIF from the usual apple ftp sites, but if
you cant't ftp or you want the //c patched version contact me and I'll
send it out. (BTW, Mr. Carpenter, is it O.K. for me to hand this
patched version out?)

Sorry, my mailer demon doesn't think much of your address, so while I am
posting... In addition to the stuff above, if you have a //gs, you would
really want SHRCONVERT, which does the same thing but using super hi-res.
Again, this could be had from any of the ftp sites for apples (Harvard,
128.103.1.56, Kentucky, 128.163.128.6, or Michigan, 35.1.1.43)

These programs are also available on national networks (well, GEnie is the
only one I am definite about) If all else fails, email to me and I'll
see what I can do about getting these to you.
