How come all of a sudden we are seeing a lot of Macintosh discussions on this list? I thought this was only an apple-II group with there being a separate one for the Mac. (one or two Mac items now and then for comparison are OK, but the stuff on release 7.0 seems entirely in the wrong place.)

I wondered the same thing. Then it occurred to me that System 7.0 for the Mac is of vital interest to Apple II owners/users. It represents that the Mac is "pulling away" from GS technology, ever reaching for the upscale engineering workstation market. This leaves the "lower end" of personal computing entirely the province of the II line in the Apple product line. This should be good news to those formerly worried about the "demise" of the Apple II line. _Brint

If you'll notice, the release 7.0 info was posted on multiple topics, including both comp.sys.mac and comp.sys.apple. Network Comment: to #2449 by obsolete!abc%BRL.MIL Actually sounds like System 7 will give the Mac the FST capability present in GS/OS. Maybe the Apple II got something first for a change? But that aside, there are many other cases where the Apple II has received a new bennie before the Mac types: - a computer (Apple II was first!) - 800k drives - 8 meg addressing space - color graphics - color toolbox - FST support - TaskMaster - Video overlay card - 1:1 interleave floppy read capability - a decent OS - slots These are just the ones that come to the top of my head. I'm sure that people out there can think of many more. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Keith Rollin --- Apple Computer, Inc. --- Developer Technical Support INTERNET: keith@apple.com UUCP: {decwrl, hoptoad, nsc, sun, amdahl}!apple!keith "Argue for your Apple, and sure enough, it's yours" - Keith Rollin, Contusions
