[comp.sys.apple] Help with Xmodem on DL 2400!

cs211s27@uhccux.uhcc.hawaii.edu (T.Koseki) (05/19/89)

I'm pretty new at this xmodem stuff, so I need a lot of help trying to download
programs from the "comp.binaries.apple2" newsgroup. I've tried downloading
with the "xmodem sbc <filename>" command and using my Datalink 2400 modem
to receive with. The transfer can only be engaged when the communications
software disk is in the default drive (usually 1, I've got a Duo-Disk setup).
I've tried formatted disks but the transfer always aborts. I've tried
using a copy of the communications software disk with all "unnecessary" stuff
deleted so the file can fit. The standard com disk is almost full so it
usually aborts because of no-space-on-disk warnings. This is really
frustrating to deal with. I know I need to download BinSCII, BLU, and
ShrinkIt to "decode" the stuff in comp.binaries.apple2. Any suggestions...
 Please e-mail me directly. Thanx!

Your problem is rather simple. Since you don't state the comm package you are
using, I'm assuming it is the one delivered with the Datalink 2400 modem. This
telecom program is just a modified version of the Talk-is-Cheap program by Don
Elton. (Don lisenced it to Applied Engineering)

What you need to do is set the working pathname. The default working pathname is
the one from which the comm program was started out of. To set a new default,
press [OA]-[N]. You'll get a prompt box stating the current default, and a line
to type in a new one. All the commands for the comm program are listed shown if
you press [OA]-[?].

You need to use the open apple-N command to change the prefix. You can get a
list of commands by pressing open apple-?

You can get a list of the volumes online by using the open apple-V command.

Also, there is a help file on the disk that explains the various open apple
commands in the program.
