[comp.sys.apple] Kermit & Help With Kermit.Init

IRPGMR7@OUACCVMB.BITNET (05/21/89)

Thanks to all you guys out there that were able to help me with the
previous questions. Now I got just one last one about Kermit. Is there
any way to avoid needing a Kermit.Init file?? Everytime I use Kermit
without that text file in the directory, it goes berserk, giving me some
"Illegal Call to such-such routine" type msg. I'm trying to make my
copy of Kermit completly independent of any other outside files, but
this little problem persists.

If you've saved all the set parameters you need and BSAVE'd Kermit, it
WILL look for a KERMIT.INIT file and generate a one line error message
if it doesn''t find one; however, you can simply ignore the message (the
program should end up in local mode with the Kermit-65> prompt - at least
it does for me :-) Most folks prefer at least a one line KERMIT.INIT
file containing CONNECT (so that the BRUN ends up in terminal mode).

Why is it important to make the program completely independent of any other
file?
