Recently my friends Apple ][c went on the fritz. It happened while attempting an external drive hookup of an old DISK ][ drive. (first mistake!!! :-( ) For some unknown reason, he must have had the thing wired wrong and is now having problems getting the internal drive, and external drive for that matter, to read. SYMPTOMS: * When booting the APPLE //C line comes up on the monitor screen. * The internal drive turns on and goes to TRACK 00. * Then the internal drive just spins, but the head doesn't move a bit. * The internal drive also doesn't time out like it should. When speaking with the local Apple Dealer (who was quite unhelpful) I got the impression that in his opinion one of two things was wrong. 1. The stepper motor went bad in the drive. (This theory isn't right due to the fact that this drive has since been tested on another machine and performed perfectly. 2. He said the only other thing could be the IWM. Does anyone out here have suggestions. Anyway of checking to see if the IWM is the problem??? I found a replacement for ~$60. Are there other places on the board to check. If it is the IWM, does anyone have an old hurt motherboard from a ][c or mac that still has the IWM in good condition. Maybe something also helpful to the cause would be the schematics for the ][c. The Apple Dealer here told me they were unavailable for the ][c. I would appreciate greatly any help you could give me, not to mention my friend would be relieved to hear of any new ideas to try.
