It's pretty clear that there isn't any 'standard' form for attributing
quoted text (or rather there are several incompatible 'standards').  Hence,
please do try and remember to check whether the text you're quoting is
accurately attributed (or remove the attribution altogether).

I've been following this thread, so I KNOW that Don Elton <delton> did NOT
make the statement apparently attributed in the message quoted above (he
probably replied causing somebody's mailer to associate his address with
that text).  If I were Don, I'd be appalled at finding myself quoted as
writing something 180 degrees from my position (even understanding how such
things happen, I still think it's objectionable).

Although this appears to be a flame, it's not intended as such.  What IS
intended is a reminder to pay more attention to what your mailer's automatic
functions actually are doing (have we all learned by now not to totally
trust the "reply" option? -- did you hear about the corporate voice mail
user who opined a romantic reply of sweet nothings which got sent to
everyone in the office instead of only the originator?).
