[comp.sys.apple] "Homebrew" hard drive question

rck@alpha.ces.cwru.edu (Robert Knauerhase) (06/20/89)

I'm posting to ask if anyone has had any experience with
the Adaptec cards mentioned in the A+ "Homebrew Hard Drive"
article. Specifically, I would like to use a Seagate ST4038
drive on my GS, preferably SCSI-chained from the Hyperdrive I
now have. The ST4038 is a 31-Meg drive, 5 heads, 733 cylinders,
and not RLL-compatible.

I already have a power supply and case from a dead Sider drive
that I hope to use, and would be more than willing to buy the Adaptec
card and SCSI cable to add 30 megs to my system...

Also, (provided I'm sucessful in getting the thing going), is
anyone familiar with what GS/OS and/or P8 do with a SCSI chain
in slot 7? Right now, I have a 20-Meg drive in two partitions. I
could always reformat it to 1 partition if necessary, but I'm wondering
1) how would GS/OS's SCSI driver handle more than two partitions, and
2) if P8 will shadow "drives" to slot 2 from the SCSI card (ala Smartport).

Thanks.
