I just noticed the following note about a delay with Appleworks 3.0 posted on GEnie and thought it might be of interest. Category 8, Topic 4 Message 12 Tue Jun 20, 1989 UNCLE-DOS [ Tom W ] at 14:13 EDT The Claris offer and the A2-Central offer are the same price. The only difference is that you don't have to send Claris your original disk on their offer (and you can do it by phone), since they already know you bought a copy of the program. Shipment of AppleWorks 3.0 has been delayed until "August". The version Claris was planning to ship was found to have several bugs. Rather than shipping a version of AppleWorks that would set a new standard in buggyness, Claris decided to go for perfection but take longer. Claris pretty much begged us at A2-Central not to send out the upgrade notice with our July newsletter, but by the time they decided to delay release till August it was just too late in our production schedule. There WAS some initial confusion at the Claris order desk because our printer and our mailer both got their work done one day faster than usual, which means the newsletter hit subscriber mailboxes two days before it was supposed to. Sorry (weep, weep) about that. I'm not sure whether they're taking orders now or not, since they don't plan to ship for over 6 weeks and the FTC says mailorders should take less time than that. A correction and clarification to Dean's message above--Alan Bird (not Mark Simonsen), Randy Brandt, and Rob Renstrom did AppleWorks 3.0 as a set of modifications to the original code. They didn't start over from scratch. Alan H.
