[net.movies] Shaffer's "Amadeus" vs. Pushkin's "Mozart and Salieri"

I have always wondered why the existence of Pushkin's work hasn't
been better publicized, given the amount of press around Shaffer's
play and movie. Naturally, "borrowing" a theme is such an established
tradition in the theater that cries of plagiarism are completely out
of place. Still, whenever I read a review which credits Shaffer with
the "ingenious" idea of pitting refined mediocrity against foul genius
I cringe.
