[comp.sys.apple] Macros for AWGS?

shatara@memit.dec.com (Chris Shatara) (06/26/89)

In reading several of the notes lately, I'm finding that the Timeout Macro
packages are very useful, especially if your used to these features in
Lotus 123 and want the same capability on your Apple (which I do). Now
does anyone know of plans by Beagle Bros or anyone else to develop this
capability for Appleworks GS?

If I rememer correctly, StyleWare has (had?) a product called DeskWorks(?)
that was a group of NDA's.ne of these was one that let you define macros (how
it worked, I don't know). You could install this in AWGS and be able to use
macros...

Then again, I could be wrong about the product even exsisting.

Randy Brandt (Ultra author) does not have any plans to do an AWGS edition of
UltraMacros.

Note though, UltraMacros 3.0 has even more capabilities and will make AW3.0
just incredible.

"DeskWorks" is currently in the hands of Beagle Bros. It does include KeyMac,
a macro NDA. Note though, that it is nothing like UltraMacros. Ultra is
actually a complete programming language (and Ultra 3.0 even more so) --
KeyMac's primary purpose is to deal with keystrokes. That's not to say that
Beagle will not enhance it in the future, but it certainly wouldn't be

for quite some time (if it was done at all).

Yes, DeskWorks does exist. It was written by StyleWare, bought out by Claris,
dumped from support, and finally (from what I understand) purchased by Beagle
Bros. It may again rise from the ashes to become the macro program it never
was... You see, it was an extremely oversimplified (yes exaggerating helps to
describe it) macro program with no built in processing ability. Nothing like
what UltraMacros is, and quite buggy. Now that Beagle has the rights to it
(me thinks) we may see something useful "Real Soon Now!"

No, Ian Mitchell wrote it. It is property of Beagle Brothers now. It is
useful for any ProDOS 16 application, not just AWGS. I'm pretty sure it'd
work with 5.0, but no guarantees.

The Keymac NDA on the DeskWorks disk does not run under System Disk 4.0 or 5.0
(yet.) This is a text-keystroke-only macro program, and runs only in ProDOS
16 Desktop-based applications.

The manual and packaging are being revised; the software will be updated to
work with the new system software later this year. A re-release date has not
been set.
