What REALLY pisses me off is that AppleWorks 3.0 doesn't give the full spelling dictionary to 5.25" disk users. According to A2-Central, the dictionary on 3.5" disks is a whopping 148 blocks BIGGER. What I'd like to be able to do is have the program in memory on my 640K //c and the 402 block dictionary split across two floppies, both of which are online. Looks like the developers forgot about us users with two 5.25" floppies, and I'm PISSED. -- ___________________________ ------------------------- _ . ___ -------------------------- ctuel@polyslo.CalPoly.edu (_ |_ l F F | (_) E |_ ucbvax!voder!polyslo!ctuel -------------------------___________________________--------------------------

Nearly all users who have only 5.25" drives get upset enough over having to switch to a dictionary disk when running QuickSpell. Using two dictionary disks is too much to ask of Joe Average AppleWorks User. 5.25" floppies are very limited in their capacity. Developers didn't forget about these limits; that's why they introduced 3.5" 800k drives. -- jeffj@pro-avalon UUCP: crash!pro-nsfmat!pro-avalon!jeffj ARPA: crash!pro-nsfmat!pro-avalon!jeffj@nosc.mil INET: jeffj@pro-avalon.cts.com

I have a hard drive and 2 5.25" dirves on my system. I don't see why I should have to buy a 3.5" drive just to load the full dictionary onto my HD. We should be given the option at least to have the full spelling dictionary on the 5.25" floppies, we are paying the same price for the up-grade. We are the only ones that really know how our system will be used and what we are willing to put up with in disk wwapping, etc. Chuck Still UUCP: {hao ihnp4 decvax}!stcvax!cls USnail: Storage Technology Corp. - MD 2286 / Louisville, Co. 80028 phone: (303) 673-5568

This would in fact work, but if you manage to talk Claris into doing it, please record the argument used! It should come in handy for all sorts of things in the future!

Network Comment: to #8727 by pnet01!crash!ucbvax.berkeley.edu!nbires!stcvax!cls The reason the 3.5" dictionary is bigger is because it has more room.. it's just that simple. I know I would hate to have dictionaries spread across 2 disks (I remember Sensible Speller). Folks don't have to buy a 3.5" disk to put it on a hard drive, the term borrow is better. Just borrow a friends 3.5" disk, install it and be happy. Myself, I would never even get a 5.25" disk for home anymore...

Network Comment: to #7648 by pnet01!crash!ucbvax.berkeley.edu!nbires!stcvax!cls FLAME ON No one says you have to buy a 3.5" drive! But why should people that have 3.5" drives be limited by people that don't have them? Have you considered BORROWING a 3.5" drive in order to copy the larger dictionary file to your hard disk? (probably not, it's easier to complain) And how come I can't run AppleWorks 2.0 or higher on my 64k Apple IIe? After all, I could run 1.0 - 1.3 on it. Also, how come those 128k IIe/IIc owners have to lose about 16k of desktop? After all, they don't get to use most of the extra features as most of the newer features (expanded clipboard, spreadsheet) *REQUIRES* extra RAM! FLAME OFF Come on folks, let's be reasonable. You can't always get something for nothing. Besides no one is FORCING you to purchase the update (you were going to pay for it weren't you?)
