[comp.sys.apple] Your theft of ProSEL

I'm sure Glen Bredon will have a warm feeling knowing that you actually intend
to pay him for what you have stolen from him. Believe it or not, there are
real people behind the programs you and others decide to use without paying
for and in most cases their income depends on people being honest. Of course
it's no skin off your nose I guess.

Theft of Prosel? When I received Prosel, it included a text file claiming it
was Shareware, and including instructions on who to contact to register, as wel
as the price ($40.00) and the number for Pro-Carolina. So I don't know about
"stole" and I think that Prosel DID start as shareware, right?

Anyway, this was not even downloaded from a pirate BBS, but from an all PD and
Shareware board (I think it is an early Prosel version, certainly not the
latest).

So before you accuse someone of STEALING something, you better be DAMN sure
you know what the hell you are talking about.

I don't know whether ProSel was every Shareware or not. It definitely isn't
Shareware now, and it hasn't been for quite a while.

(Gee...Pro-Carolina. You're not thinking of ECP8, are you?)

I call many boards (mostly proline) and I have seen programs ranging from
print shop to proterm2.01 on the boards that make up the proline
network..while I havent seen prosel on any of them, Im not ruling out the fact
that its out there...calling mr kreme is a bit harsh..its like taking out all
the fustrations from all the pirates and vending them on one user...

Which proline sites did you see those programs on? As I run a legal ProLine
system I don't want to be supporting network connections to pirate boards,
proline or otherwise.

Say what? I run a proline site in Houston and from what I've seen there are no
pirate proline systems.

I can also say that no software gets released on my system without it being
checked for copyright infringement. One of the things that really inspired me
to switch from GBBS Pro to ProLine was the fact that the network tried to keep
it's nose clean.

I'd be curious for a few facts about these alleged pirate proline sites.

I also would like to know where you saw this. I have yet to see where anyone
has made *knowingly* made *any* pirate software available on the proline
network.

As a ProLine sysop, I've had copyrighted software uploaded (as has any
operator of a bbs system), but its never been approved for download. And the
user has been informed of the possible consequences of his action.

Are you sure you're not talking about ProCmd? This might have been Shareware
at one time and was written by Don Elton of pro-carolina. It's now marketed
by Tech Aliance (Call Apple).

Pro-line site? I never said a Proline site. I said a PD and Shareware
board. Which, by the by, is no longer with us. Makes the point moot
anyway....

This is getting worse... I didn't write ProCmd either and didn't write ProSEL
and neither has ever been available for downloading from pro-carolina.

Ok...the board I saw the software on was/is Pro-sat
as to my knowledge, the software is still on hold..the library hasnt been
updated in about a month or two..I keep calling to see if the sysop is going
to make that avialable to the masses or to delete it..Im interested in what
his choice will be...

I woudldnt call a system a pirate system because it has 2 maybe 3 copyrighted
software programs on it..pirate systems are dedicated towards the entire board
being pirated software...see an earlier post for the single system I've seen

I would like to know what prolines you have seen pirated software on! We try
to police ourselves and I have not heard of a single proline that has made
available *any* pirated software.
