[comp.sys.apple] NEW ZIPS

L77@TAUNOS.BITNET (YORAM NEY) (07/23/89)

I've just rejoined the net,so I guess this subject had already rose the
appropriate chat,if so please answer directly to mailbox.
I came across Fas-Track's ad in July's InCider,p.99,price-listing Zip-Chips
as follows:
Zip Chip 4mhz..............$119.00
Zip Chip 8mhz..............$169.00
Zip IIgs...................$245.00
Having found no other clue for the existence of 8mhz or GS zipchips.I called
Fas-Track and was told that the 8mhz zipchip will start shipping in
August,and the zip IIgs,accelerating to 8mhz,in September.
Some very bad memories concerning zipchips and taking-orders-before-shipping-
has-started are coming back to me...
Have I missed anything announced by Zip Technology lately?

Has anyone had any further information about these two new chips?

Missed AppleFest in May too, huh? :-) Both the 8MHz and IIgs Zip
chips were touted at AppleFest, but they remain Vaporware until they
actually are shipped. After Zip's problems meeting their announced dates
for their first product, some caution about advanced ordering is prudent.

You CAN order with a bank credit card AND decline paying the credit
card bill (if the charge shows up on your statement) until you receive
the product (no finance charge from your credit card company although you
may be required to fill out and mail in a "disputed charge" form). Sometimes
the credit card company removes the charge from the the bill and the vendor
doesn't get around to reinstating it until months after the product is
shipped (if Zip slips you may be in the chips :-)
