daehl@madnix.UUCP (Donald Aehl) (07/23/89)

I'm having a little trouble subscribing to Apple2-l, could someone please
pass the proper directions to me so that I can get on the list.

thanks in advance for any help.

I shouldn't wonder. Your posts to comp.sys.apple show up here as from
a host that the gateway to wisc.edu insists doesn't exist
(speedy.wisc.edu)!

I have asked the postmaster and the gatemaster at the gateway host about
that. In the meantime, see if you can get mail to me. If I can figure
out a return address that LISTSERV@BROWNVM won't choke on
(daehl@madnix.UUCP?), I'll add you to the list.

1) I'd prefer folks try to sign up using the "robot" (LISTSERV@BROWNVM)
before asking Chris or I to do it by hand (we will in cases where you
really can't get LISTSERV to recognize you exist :-)

2) Don's problems illustrate the value of appending a .sig to posts to
USENET lists. By the time a post has wandered around to all subscribers
various gateways often have butchered the return address beyond all
   recognition.
