Snow Software is pleased to announce the release of version 1.04 of SnowTerm, the desktop terminal emulator package for the Apple IIGS. This new version adds support for Super Serial card compatible internal modems and external modems connected to a Super Serial card interface. Previous versions of SnowTerm only supported external modems connected to the built in serial port of the GS. SnowTerm runs under the full desktop environment of the Apple IIGS and uses the graphics capabilities of the GS to provide an accurate emulation of the DEC VT100 and VT52 terminals, including character attributes such as bold, blinking, underline, reverse video, double height and double width as well as the VT100 special graphics character set. Version 1.04 adds a few VT100 escape sequences that previously were not supported by SnowTerm and also fixes several bugs present in earlier versions. SnowTerm is distributed as shareware. The shareware registration fee is $20. SnowTerm v1.04 has been uploaded to the comp.binaries.apple2 area in Shrinkit/BINSCII format. Anyone who did not get it or needs a copy in BLU/BinaryII format may contact me at the address listed below. SnowTerm v1.04 requires an Apple IIGS with a minimum of 512K of RAM and GS/OS version 2.0 (system disk 4.0) or higher. -- ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- John F. If there is a way I can use SnowTerm to emulate an APL terminal, then I'm interested. Do you know whether there's an APL character set available? Alan H. BTW, forgive my stupidity, but, how can I reach comp.binaries.apple2? Is it on a commercial service? I sure would like to look at some of the things I've heard about being posted there. Any help anyone? Laer

I'm not sure WHO is responsible for what subset of USENET is available to pro-lines (probably your system administrator - mdavis, I believe, or Bill Blue <bblue@crash.cts.com> is or knows who is). In any case, everything that appears on comp.binaries.apple2 also (eventually) appears on APPLE2-L (and vice-versa). APPLE2-L *is* distributed to the Pro-Lines by 'crash.' I thought I'd give snowterm a try, and I am using it now with a late beta version of GS/OS v3.0. The vt-100 emulation is as good as most, but I have had to force several screen rewrites already. It has it's own font, which is shorter, I think, to allow for the menu bar at the top. It is read- able, but not fantastic (the font). It does not support file transfers, and lacks any file utilities, but seems usable. It does not, in it's present form meet my needs, but it has promise. The above were my observations, based on an hours use of Snowterm 1.04, and no more. Oh yes, you cannot save dial lists, and there are no macro's. But it does have an amiga style screen/background/ text color selector. Rich -Rich-@cup.portal.com

I'm considering adding it to a future version of SnowTerm. comp.binaries.apple2 is a standard usenet newsgroup, just like comp.sys.apple. How you get there if you aren't connected directly to usenet, I don't know. -- ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- John F.
