In my usual tradition of seeing sneak previews, I got to see this Thursday night (thanx, WBCN). This is an outstanding flick, probably one of the best I've seen this year. JoBeth Williams stars as a suburban housewife (no, she's not getting typecast) who really enjoys Rebecca Ryan (a sort of female Dashielle Hammet) stories, so she enters a contest that involves writing a short story. Of course, she wins (we wouldn't have a movie otherwise, would we?) and gets an all-expense-paid trip to Paris. But she gets there and gets hit by a car and wakes up thinking she's Rebecca Ryan, involved in international intrigue. From here, things get wierd. Fortunately, after a little while, you realize what's going on. Tom Conti (of "Reuben, Reuben") does an excellent job as her sidekick (she calls him Dimitri). His comic timing is impeccable. While this movie isn't really a comedy, it has some of the most intensely funny scenes I've seen this year. I can't say much more here without giving away the story, so I'll stop. This is "one of those rare films everyone should see." -- Randwulf (Randy Haskins); Path= genrad!mit-eddie!rh
