[comp.sys.apple] KERMIT385 ESPECIALLY FOR uxa.cso.uiuc.edu!krm20699

ucoerp@sw1e.UUCP (Robert B. Paster) (07/28/89)

SORRY FOR POSTING THIS, BUT I CAN'T SEEM TO GET TO KEN ANY
OTHER WAY.

Ken,

I got the floppy disk you sent with Kermit385 on it and the "packer"
programs on the other side. Thank you very much for the help.

I "exec"ed the app385.init and app385.install and then "brun"ed
kermit385. After a couple of seconds I got dumped into the monitor
with the various register values diplayed. I thought maybe if I
tranferred the files to a DOS 3.3 disk instead of ProDos it might
correct the situation.

So I used the conversion program to transfer the files from ProDos to
DOS 3.3 and then "exec"ed app385.init and app385.install. When I
"brun"ed kermit385 the disk drive whirred for several seconds and then
I got the Applesoft prompt back. Nothing else.

Well I guess I'm just not supposed to have Kermit on my Apple IIE.

THANKS AGAIN FOR ALL THE HELP AND SENDING THE DISK.

I hope you worked from a copy of the disk Ken sent you, so you can try
that again. The APP385.INIT & APP385.INSTALL files are NOT intended to
work under ProDOS. Depending on what serial driver is installed compared
to what you need, you may not need to EXEC the INSTALL file at all (the
INIT is called by INSTALL and isn't intended tto be EXEC'd from the keyboard
anyway). The APP385.INSTALL *might* work from DOS 3.3 if you DON'T use
Apple2's CONVERT to transfer the files (CONVERT has a number of bugs that
make it unreliable for its intended purpose) - either Copy II+ or the
Chameleon will do the job properly.

Try another copy of the disk Ken sent you.

BRUN KERMIT385 With any luck you'll get the Kermit-65> (if not rename the
KERMIT.INIT file -- you'll need it later). From the Kermit-65 prompt type
SHOW ALL or SHOW SERIAL DRIVER and check which driver is installed (it may
be the one you need).

You can change the driver within ProDOS from the Applesoft prompt -

BLOAD KERMIT385
EXEC APP385.xxx <--- appropriate driver
BSAVE KERMIT385,A$1000,L$6E00

If you have the correct driver and Kermit doesn't seem to recognize your
modem check the KERMIT.INIT file (or SHOW ALL from the Kermiit prompt) to be
sure that Kermit is being told the correct slot for your modem.

I trust Ken mailed you a binary of KERMIT385 created from the EZ Install
and not one that has been BSAVE'd after being BRUN on a IIgs :-(

I can email you the DOCs (a rathher LARGE file I'm afraid, something like
70K) if you don't already have them (when all else fails, follow directions :-)
