[comp.sys.apple] Seeking Recommendations for Cheap Daisywheel Printer: Brother

DaleSumida.ElSegundo@XEROX.COM (08/04/89)

A friend has recently acquired an old Apple II+ with an Apple Serial
Interface card and he is looking for recommendations for an inexpensive
(<$400) daisywheel printer.

I realize that the world has gone either to (1) laser or (2) "near letter
quality" dot matrix printers but he can't afford (1), and (2) is not
suitable for his application (he's a student on a limited budget and a free
lance writer, so he deals with people who hate dot matrix printing). He
would use it for low volume work, at most 50 pages per week of English
text--nothing heavy-duty like long program listings. He doesn't need fancy
features like graphics or proportional spacing. Speed is not important:
20cps is fine.

In short, what he really wants is a typewriter-like add-on to his Apple.
He is considering the Brother HR-20 printer or maybe a
computer-interfaceable typewriter.

Does anyone have any recommendations for a cheap, reliable, no-frills
daisywheel printer or interfaceable typewriter? If you have one connected
to an Apple via a serial card, have you had any problems with the
Apple-to-printer connection?

All recommendations will be greatly appreciated! Please e-mail them to me
and I will post a summary if there is sufficient interest.
