[comp.sys.apple] AE Datalink + ModemWorks -- DIP switch settings?

aragorn@blake.acs.washington.edu (Michael Owen) (08/03/89)

I've got AE's Datalink 2400, and v2.0 of Modemworks. I also got ahold of the
datalink.dvr file, from a demo version of v2.0C. I've only got the 2.0
manual, as I haven't upgraded to 2.0C--I don't have the original disk, and I
can never get ahold of the guy that does.

I've left the DIP switches alone--all closed. I switched the jumpers to
C-E & B-D, I *think*. ModemWorks resets and initializes the modem fine--but
whenever I've got my software ready to accept a call, the system drops to
the monitor as soon as it gets a ring. & TRACE takes over from there, and
the computer is rebooted.

ANYWAY: could somebody with the 2.0C manual send me the DIP switch listings
AND the jumper settings for the Datalink 2400? It would be VERY much
appreciated. I've finally got a second line in, and I'd like to begin full-
time beta testing on my new BBS.

Michael,

Mixing modem drivers from 2.0C with an old ModemWorks 2.0 kernel will probably
cause all sorts of problems (like crashing). Make sure you use the latest of
each together to insure proper operation.

You can upgrade your 2.0 disk to 2.0C by sending it to

        Morgan Davis Group
        10079 Nuerto
        Rancho San Diego, CA 92078-1736

We upgrade disks for free. There is a manual update that you probably will
want since 2.0C introduces quite a few new commands since 2.0, and some of the
original commands have been improved. Updating both a disk and new manual is
$20.

Your problem is that you have switched the jumpers from the factory standard
setting. I use a DataLink 2400 with modemworks/proline, and use it EXACTLY
like it comes from the factory. If you are using PRIME or some other software
that looks for the carrier on the DTR line, THEN you switch the jumpers, which
is equivalent to building a "crossed" cable. So, I recommend you set it up
just like it came from the factory, if you haven't tried that yet. (BTW, I do
not change the dipswitches either--nice to have something that you don't have
to change at all to get it to work.)
