[comp.sys.apple] IIc Internal Power Converter

JerryK@cup.portal.com (Jerry E Kindall) (08/07/89)

I have a question. I recently bought a Z-RAM Ultra II for my IIc,
and so far like it quite a bit. However, my IIc's internal power
converter (the little silver box in the back) now makes a high-
pitched whine, gets pretty hot, and produces minor interference
on my monitor, presumably due to increased power demands.

From what I understand, the IIc's two-part power supply is functionally
equivalent to the IIe's one-piecer. What I'd like to do is buy a heavy-
duty IIe power supply and attatch it to my IIc. This would have to be
done INSIDE the IIc, bypassing the power converter entirely.

So, two problems. First, I don't know of any documentation about the
specs of the internal power converter's output. What comes out on which
pin? Why are there so many pins at all? Second, how exactly is that
thing attatched to the IIc logic board, and can it be removed without
damage to the logic board? Are the pins actually soldered to the
logic board?

ANY help would be appreciated.
