Worse yet at a concert. Murphy's Law being what it is, it's guaranteed that
the watches will sound the D just below the E flat that the violins have
just soared up to and are now playing pianissimo, the one that defines
the whole mood of the slow movement...

I have played in concerts where  MEMBERS Of THE ORCHESTRA beeped on the hour.
(admittedly amateurs, but...)   Very annoying.
