[comp.sys.apple] RE! LOADRUNNER VIRUS

delaneyg@wnre.aecl.CDN ("H. Grant Delaney") (08/26/89)

I beleive that we should look beyond Speedy Smith for the Virus. I got my
copy of Speedy Smith at the same time and from the same source as APPLES BC. I
did a check of all my disks copied created or otherwise accessed since July
when I got my copy and have not been able to find it on any ot them.

I was rather apprehensive about using a disinfector without source
from someone I hadn't heard of, so I disassembled the disinfector & took a
look - aside from the replacement boot code (which I didn't look at much),
it looks like it's clean. Does anyone know why the authors didn't distribute
the source? They obviously anticipated disassembly (there was a message that
read "Why are you looking here? This is only empty space." embedded in the
code), so why not just make everyone a little bit more comfortable and give
the source with the thing... The program itself isn't any big deal, and the
disinfection method is obvious from the code. Guess I'm just as confused as
ever - oh, well.
