Since we can send mail to Compu$erve, and Compu$erve users can send faxes by addressing their mail properly, can we send faxes through the Compu$erve gateway? Alan H. >Hi: > > Can you give us some more information in this compu$erve getway >. The last message you posted was vage and superficial. Thanks in advance >for your prompt response. > >Cordially, > >Pete Cruz. There's not much to it. We can send email to anyone at CompuServe by addressing it to <compuserveid@compuserve.com>, with a . substituted for the , in the id. For example, my CompuServe id is 71545,1500. Someone on Bitnet can send me mail on CompuServe by addressing it to 71545.1500@compuserve.com (Please don't--it's much cheaper for me to read mail on Bitnet.) Anyone on Compu$erve can also send mail to us on Bitnet. We cannot access other Bitnet services. E.G. we cannot mail FAXes by way of Compu$erve. Alan H. Comment to message from: STEIN%UCONNVM.BITNET@cunyvm.cuny.edu (Alan Stein) How reliable is that gatewat? Im wondering because I sent a letter to 2 people on compuserve and neither of the messages bounced or were received. They were simply lost. Either that, or its taking a month to get there. -Brian

Whether it's fairly unreliable and I've just been lucky, I can't say. Alan H. The thing to do is report problems to the 'postmaster' (on BITNET it's often a chore figuring out WHO that is, but on the Internet <and even UUCP> the obvious - postmaster@host - usually works). I just heard from Sam Neely <postmaster@compuserve.com> earlier today about an entirely different question, so I know he replies to mail.
