Re: Use of Apple Firmware Card in slot 4 with software Originally: Davex and the Apple Firmware Card I tried a number of programs with my Apple Firmware Card (in slot 4) none of which worked. To test a program's response to my Firmware Card, I set the card up to activate on reset. When I started the program under test, the Firmware Card was not selected and the motherboard ROMs were active. Then I pressed control-reset, at which time the modified F8 and Applesoft on the Apple Firmware Card became active. Here are the results: Ascii Express - Some functions worked. Some would clear the screen, then freeze the machine. II+ UnShrinkit - It froze after drawing the screen but before putting up the menu choices. Binscii - All operations were normal until a pathname to unconvert was requested. After accepting a pathname, it froze. S-C Assembler - There APPEARED to be no effect. However, the machine was locked up. BASIC System - BASIC died after any Prodos command. CAT and CATALOG were tried. To refresh your memory: Prodos v1.7 - It freezes after the loading of the initial screen. It is my understanding that this is "normal" practice and is not a crash. Davex v1.23 - After reset, Davex activates (and clears the 80-column screen, then freezes up. In all cases (that I know of) the Language Card was activated. I know this because I have the top off of my II+ and the Saturn 128K Card in slot 0 has lights indicating what RAM bank is active at that time. At first I suspected Prodos, but is it possible that the operation of the Language Card interferes with the Firmware Card? I'd like to be able to use my Firmware Card in slot 4.
