There have been so many comments about problems with the UDC lately that I just had to throw in my two cents worth. I have been using a UDC with two Central Point 800K drives since January with no disk trashing, no detectable write errors, and no fancy tricks to avoid problems. I usually but not always boot from the 800k drive. The setup is an enhanced IIe with a Grappler+ in slot 1, SSC to a Supra modem in 2, extended 80 col card in the aux slot, Mockingboard in 4, nothing in 5, disk II controller to duodisk in 6, and UDC in 7. It appears that the UDC doesn't _have_ to boot a disk to get set up - it only has to _try_ to boot one. With the UDC in 7 it always tries. It will have one problem, however. Using the hyperformat code from ShrinkIT 2.01 or earlier, I sometimes wind up with 400K instead of 800K being formatted. Reformatting always corrects the problem, and I have no idea what causes it. By the way, my UDC and two drives came via Jameco, rather than directly from Central Point. ALBRO@NIEHS.BITNET
