Thanks to help from several people on the net, specifically Achim Patzner, I have found a way to create a Postscript file under GSOS. 1) copy the LaserWriter driver under the */System/Drivers to some other name, it doesn't matter what the name is (I used DC.laser for direct connect laser printer) 2) use the control panel to select a direct connect printer and then select the copied LaserWriter driver (ie DC.laser in my case) 3) then run your favorite program and choose print. AFTER the print box has come up hold down the OA-F keys and CLICK on the ok button, the printer box should come up saying that it is generating a PostScript file. The file will be PostScript.GS00 in your */System/Drivers folder. Each subseqent file will be named .GS01 .GS02 etc. If this doesn't work, make sure you don't have a cursor showing in the print dialog box, ie. in the "from to" boxes...do this by selecting some text in the dialog box, ie. 100% for the proportion size. I have my system setup for a Appletalk LaserWriter connection (use the installer program to create all the proper files for you). NOTE: you do not have to have a printer connected to do this. 4) after you have created your postscript file upload it to you favorite postscript printer for printing. I uploaded mine to a Apple LaserWriter IInt. NOTE: All of the text files I tried printed fine, but some of the AWGS page layout designs generated errors ( it was a postscript error, it didn't recognize the command readhexstring) after several tries I did get the file to print though. All of my tests were done within AppleWorks GS v1.0v2, I can't say anything about other programs. But this should work since it is System software dependent. If you have any questions just drop me some Email at: mikes@shumv1.ncsu.edu -------- Good Luck. All Disclaimers are valid. Wow, Thanks a lot for posting this Michael. I myself appreciate it a great deal. I have heard rumors about this feature for months now, but nobody seems to know that this feature exists. I asked the AppleLink AppleWorks forum leader and I asked people on Compuserve, and nobody knew what I was talking about. Infact, those on AppleLink said that it was just totally impossible. Well, I guess the record is straight now. By the way, how does one "upload a file" to a LaserWriter. And also, can I transfer this file to a Macintosh (via Apple File Exchange) and then print it from there? Thanks for any help.
