Actually, you'd might be better off with a memory card. With one meg of
memory I load all of the libraries etc at bootup. This way file access,
which is the real killer here, is excellerated.                
As to the 40 column part, I'm paraphrasing from the manual;
Supported configurations include a // or //plus in 40 column mode 1,with
keyboard entry of lower case characters (single wire shift key mod) or 
2, it can support console display of the full set of displayable ASCII 
characters(loser-case adapter). There doesn't seem to be any mention of
a //+ with 80 column card, but my manual came out in 86.
