Thanks to replies from two Beagle folks, I know a little more about the MultiScribe --> BeagleWrite upgrade. To upgrade, all you need to do is send in your original MultiScribe GS disk and $10 to Beagle and they'll send you version 3.2. (Beagle Bros., 6215 Ferris Square, Suite 100, San Diego, CA, 92121) Version 3.2 apparently doesn't differ much from MSGS version 3.01C. The changes, as reported on a one-page sheet they mailed to me, are as follows: -- Includes GSOS 3.0 (which means a speed inprovement) -- Requires 1 meg of memory to run; 1.25 recommended. If you don't use the spell checker or thesaurus, you can get away with 768K. -- The Finder takes up too much disk space and is not included. The Apple IIGS Program Launcher is used instead. -- The Choose Printer command has been changed for the new system software. (There's something you now have to do with the Control Panel before you print. It's a once-per-session operation.) -- The ImageWr.BW print driver is not supported by GS/OS 3.0. We are to use the ImageWriter driver instead. -- There is a bug in the Spell Checker that does not allow you to use the dictionaries on a hard disk. They claim to be working to fix that problem. I've also learned that the only source code they have for Multiscribe/BeagleWrite GS is several versions old. As a consequence, version 3.2 has no bug fixes. No word on whether or not Beagle is working on revising the code. (I, for one, certainly hope they are!) Lester McCann numccann@plains.nodak.edu
