I had the same problem with the Datalink 2400 and Kermit. Simply put: "For some reason Kermit doesn't like the Datalink" It cuts off the first 6 characters of each line, but will still u/dload properly. Every version of kermit I have ever found does not work. They work fine on a friends //c with external modem. To the author of Kermit: Fix this bug and maybe people would use kermit, but for now its ProTERM. (it works...haha) Thanks, Shad Fax (James Risner) Univ. of KY CS0251AF@UKCC (BITNET)

On Sat, 16 Sep 89 15:46:51 EDT you said: >"For some reason Kermit doesn't like the Datalink" It depends on whether owners of DataLink can read documentation. Ed Moore hasn't said so in so many words, but apparently he's found a way to enable interrupts on his DataLink (requires reading BOTH the Kermit AND the DataLink documentation!). Once that's done, there's no reason to lose characters. >It cuts off the first 6 characters of each line, but will still u/dload >properly. Every version of kermit I have ever found does not work. >They work fine on a friends //c with external modem. The previous two sentences contradict each other. Computers are relatively unforgiving of muddled thinking and fuzzy logic. TIC and ZLink won't work at all if interrupts aren't enabled. At least Kermit gives you the option. If you happen to be working with a system that will supply 'pad' characters, you won't have character loss even without interrupts enabled. >To the author of Kermit: Fix this bug and maybe people would use >kermit, but for now its ProTERM. (it works...haha) It's not a bug (read the docs, it REALLY is a feature -- you can use the program even without a serial card that supports interrupts). LOTS of people DO use Kermit. ProTerm has a few disadvantages you haven't noticed: First it costs $75 (mail order) or so more than Kermit, second Kermit's VT-100 is superior, third it's not absolutely clear from what I've been reading that ProTerm finally has all the bugs out of its Kermit transfer protocol.
