[comp.sys.apple] Datalink and Kermit

ALBRO@NIEHS.BITNET (09/19/89)

At least one member of the NIEHS AUG is using Kermit v.3.84 with an internal
Datalink 1200/2400 modem, and doesn't seem to be losing characters. The IIgs
control panel is set for buffering on, XON/XOFF on, DCD no, DSR no, everything
else per default. The dip switches on the modem are all closed (switch #1
must be closed to enable interupts.) If you wanted to run a BBS, you would
want to set switch #3 open (DCD follows modem). One problem can be the fact
that this modem has autoanswer (S0=1) as default. Right after the Kermit
connect command, you should send a n ATS0=0 command to make sure answer mode
is off. I suspect the problem of losing characters relates to whether or
not buffering is on in the control panel. If switch #1 is open, the SSC
driver shouldn't work at all.

The control panel settings don't have any impact on the Datalink itself.
The settings control the Modem Port on the back, which an internal Datalink
would not be hooked up to. I've had wierd values in my modem control panel
section (i.e. 19200 baud w/ 2400 Datalink) with no effect.
I've run a Datalink 2400 with about every comm package (Kermit, Zlink,
TIC, etc.,) and had no problems. I think the clincher is to keep the
interrupt switch on the Datalink (switch 1 I believe) on.
