[comp.sys.apple] Recognizing the second drive

eddie@CC.MSSTATE.EDU (Eddie Mikell) (09/19/89)

I have come across an odd problem with System 5.0 (or I've used some
wrong settings - which may be the case)

I followed the instructions for generating a system disk that will print
to a Laserwriter on an appletalk network. Tested the disk and it sends
stuff to the printer just fine.

Here's the problem. When I boot with this printer disk, the system does
not recognize my 5.25 disk! Just to make sure I had not damaged the
2nd drive somehow, I rebooted using the normal System.Disk, which
recognized the 5.25 disk just fine.

Anyone else run into this problem, or can anyone make any suggestion on
what I've done wrong?

Thanks

Eddie H. Mikell

If you used the installer to make the new system disk that you use for
the network, then you have to install the 5.25" drive. It doesn't do it
automatically, so just go back into the installer, and tell it to put
the driver for a 5.25" drive on the disk. Simple, eh?

Now only if System 5.0 worked on my hard drive..

Eddie,

What you probably haven't done is installed the driver for the 5.25"
disk drive. Use the installer program, and install the Appledisk.5.25
driver onto your printer disk. Then reboot. All should be fine.

Good Luck & Bye for now,

I'm sure you're going to get a million of these responses, but my guess is you
either forgot to install a 5.25" driver on the other boot disk, or said driver
is inactive.
