Well just for the record, or to keep in the archives when someone else runs up into this problem.. RE: Using a CMS SD43 and the Apple SCSI card... Apparently the cms scsi card requires that wire 40 of the 50 pin scsi bus be not connected to the drive.. I have no idea why this is, but it won't work with wire 40 connected, so usually on the old models, they have wire 40 cut between the drive and the back of the case.. The Apple SCSI card requires wire 40 to be connected to the drive, so it was hanging when it couldn't assert whatever signal on wire 40.. I heard it was something like RESET, but my early Apple beta docs on the scsi tech stuff doesn't list the wire.. Oh well. Tracing 50 pin buses is not fun stuff to do with a multimeter, but it got to work finally.. I've also heard other people, who had perfectly working drives off the Apple scsi card, so apparently some other setups are ok, some not.. CMS is a weird company..
