[comp.sys.apple] ASCII EXPRESS

S.D-REUBEN%KLA.WESLYN%WESLEYAN.BITNET@WISCVM.WISC.EDU.UUCP (03/11/87)

Hi there!

I have a US Robotics Courier 2400 modem, and a Super Serial Card. I use this
with Ascii Express to for my communication needs.

I used to own an internal Apple Cat modem, which AE worked with nicely.

However, when I use AE with my Courier, I am always left in the "AE: TERM-->"
mode, and have to type an "escape sequence" (control-Q) to issue a command to
AE. Personally, this suits me just fine, and is not a problem for me; however,
I have been told that there is a way to set AE (via some selection in Install)
to treat the serial card/external modem as an "internal" one, and therefore
not requiring me to hit control-Q
to issue a command.

If anyone knows if this is possible, and if so, how to do it, please respond
to:

CC004019@BROWNVM.BITNET (Chris)

(I'm just typing this up for him...)

Thanks,

-Doug

I HAVE AN (DONT LAUGH) APPLE II+ THAT I AM USING AS A DATA TERMINAL.
I AM RUNNING ASCII EXPRESS AS A TERMINAL PROGRAM. DOES ANYONE KNOW HOW TO
ESCAPE FROM ASCII EXPRESS' TEXT EDITOR? WHEN I ENTER IT, I TRY TYPING
EVERYTHING POSSIBLE TO EIT FROM IT, AND IT WONT LET ME OUT. EVEN THE RESET
KEY BRINGS ME BACK INTO IT.

   DOES ANYONE HAVE THE ANSWER??

                    THAN-

Check chapter 12.2 where it lists all of the Editor commands. Page 170.

Oh, boy, lets see if I can remember back. I believe you use all dot commands
with the AE text editor. Therefore, I think it's '.O' which will get you out
of there. '

Chirs@msus1.bitnet

P.S. '.h' should give you a list of dot commands. and I'm sure that this is
over stating the obvious, but just in case; don't include the
      apostrophies when typing the command.

Exit ASCII EXPRESS' Text Editor with .x alone on a new line. Leading
spaces are not allowed. If the editor is too full, it might say
"AE: W)rite or C)lear Buffer!", in which case, you will have to write the
buffer (.p filename) or clear the buffer (.c AE:Are you sure? y).

Yeah Steve, and while he's checking chapter 12.2 pg. 170, he can dial up Billl
Blue (who wrote ASCII Express) and ask him the same question...

Better yet, he could just email Bill Blue at bblue@crash.com and see what he
has to say about it. B^)
