[comp.sys.apple] A2.Central

lbotez@pnet02.gryphon.com (Lynda Botez) (08/28/89)

Things must be very dull [extremely dull] in the Apple world to be razzing
A2.Central.

Come-on. A2.Central may not be for everyone; but most of us Apple people like
it, find it informative, and like Tom Weishaar's style. Hell, he's one of the
few people in this industry that's willing to stand up and make constructive
criticism towards Apple and it's marketing policies, etc. etc.

Attacking A2.Central is like attacking the Bible. Gimme a break. Hey, if you
don't like it, tough. Your $4.47 (or whatever) isn't worth all this
hullabaloo.

I CAN'T wait for the next issue. You never know what he's gonna say. Usually
when I get it; I drop everything, sit down and read it from cover to cover.
Sure, there's old stuff in it, so what?

And don't attack the cartoons. I love 'em. Hey, I still laugh about "Nuns
Who Smoke Cigars and Dress Laptop Computers in Doll Clothes User Group"....

Call Apple had a booth at Applefest; their first quarterly magazine is out and
looks very nice (quit impressive, actually); though I haven't received mine
yet at home (I'm a subscriber).

Call Apple is going through some tough times; however, hopefully we'll see it
emerge through it all.

It's been a tough year for the Apple II; hopefully things are on the way up,
now the the new gs is out (and apparently selling well, in spite of Apple's
marketing department and it's obvious lack of advertising and promotion. When
was the last time you saw an ad for an Apple II?)

As far as the 12 mhz 65816 chips are concerned; I find it incredibly hard to
believe that Western Design has a stockpile of them. I happen to know there
are a few 10 mhz chips around, but nothing in large numbers. I've been given
the chance to upgrade my transwarp gs to 9 mhz, but I'm waiting for the "magic
10"... However, I also find it hard to believe that Apple couldn't have gone
with a 5 or 6 mhz chip for the Rom 3 gs. Since I have a 7.0 mhz Applied
Engineering Transwarp GS; I have become somewhat oblivious to the 2.8 mhz
speed; it was painfully apparant at Applefest, when all the machines were
running at the lower speed. It's too damn slow. (Maybe Apple should bundle
the transwarp gs with every new machine? :-). )

If Apple got together with Western Design, I'm quite SURE that they could get
12mhz 816 chips real quick. The problem (from what I see) is that Apple isn't
even willing to look into getting high speed chips.

Their attitude seems to be "Well, if we run into a ton of 100Mhz chips on
street, we'll think about a faster CPU". I doubt that WD has a stockpile of
12Mhz chips, but with Apple's true support, it COULD have one.

I think it was Mensch that said if Apple would work with him, he could go to a
generic chip manufacture company and get the chips made. IF, IF, IF..
