The VAX here at school usually runs on even parity, which is no good for downloading apple II files. When i set the kermit on the VAX to do no parity or space parity, my kermit won't receive it. when i do the exact same thing, but with even parity, the transfer works (but the files are useless). Is there something i should be doing differently? Gavin Steyn steyn@eniac.seas.upenn.edu

When i set the kermit on the VAX to do I use kermit exclusively for downloading files from this lousy big IBM which also goes through who knows how many control units AND only uses even parity and I have no problems. What makes the files useless? You could always set 8-bit quoting on (both ends) which will slow down the transfers quite a bit.

Is there something i should be doing differently? How so 'useless?' If they are text files, they're 7-bit files and you should be able to use them (if they're programs, they'll need further processing, as with BinSCII, for instance). It IS possible to transfer binary files under even parity (that's really why Kermit was developed in the first place), -->BUT<-- you have to SET FILE-TYPE Binary at **BOTH ends* of Kermit! Also, if the file came over the net, it's may have passed through an ASCII->EBCDIC->ASCII translation (nearly guaranteed to corrupt a binary file).
