[comp.sys.apple] MouseTalk and System 5.0

HELP!

I use Ascii Express MouseTalk for terminal emulation on my Apple IIGS.
I have 2.25 Megs of ram and a 10MB hard disk on my ROM 01 machine.

Under system 4.0, Mousetalk worked flawlessly and would print to my
AppleTalk ImageWriter when I told the program I had a super serial
card in slot 7. Under System 5.0, MouseTalk crashes on startup
whether I tell it to use a printer or not.

I spent an entire evening and have determined that the culprit is the
AppleTalk ImageWriter Driver (or the files installed with it by the
installer). If I remove the printer driver, MouseTalk works fine,
if I have the Installer re-install it, Mousetalk crashes.

Even if I configure mousetalk so that it thinks I don't have a
printer, the program crashes (sometimes quite spectacularly) on
startup if the AppleTalk ImageWriter driver is installed.

I have called USI, verified that I have the latest version of
MouseTalk and relayed the problem to them. They replied that none of
their developers had an AppleTalk ImageWriter so they never test that
configuration and don't know what they can do about it. They will be
trying to fix it, but told me not to hold my breath.

Can someone from Apple, or any informed individual suggest a reason
why this might happen? What changed in the AppleTalk ImageWriter
driver between System 4.0 and System 5.0? Can someone from Apple
please call USI at 303-671-0033 and follow up on this? please?

Thank you.
