Network Comment: to #12257 by rich@pro-exchange.cts.com Considering there are about 1 million GS's out there in lala land; I would assume a number of them would be interested in hooking themselves up to one of those cheap HP Deskjet or Laser Printers. I know I would. HP had a booth at Applefest; unfortunately, I didn't realize it; because I sure would have dropped by and gave them a piece of my mind. However, from those who did, I was told that their printers were designed to work with the Mac, and that drivers for the GS weren't in their plans. I would imagine if enough interested people badgered HP with inquiries, they might consider writing a driver (after all, how hard could it be?). Text apparently can be printed on one, using one of the emulations (is it Epson, I can't remember...). But graphics look the same as the Imagewriter. These printers can be purchased for around $650 (Deskjet); highly affordable, and they look almost as good as a laser printer. I'd buy one tomorrow, if only... Lynda

If you noticed at the recent Applefest, THIRDWARE products had a HP COLOR ink jet printer hooked upto their GS. They were using it to print very high quality color prints of graphic screens they were dumping with their Fingerprint GSI card... Their card supports many various printers including the HP Color unit, which they said they purchased for around a thousand bucks.. One of the topics I discussed with the owners of the company was the fact that they have the only known driver for the HP in the ROM of their card. They already knew it. Perhaps some phone calls or letters to the attention of Fred or Rapheal might get their interest up to the idea of selling a disk with their drivers on it that could be installed on your system disk. Must say, I was quite impressed with the color quality of the printing and might be interested myself if the driver were available.. -- bsherman@ibiza.cs.miami.edu or bsherman@mthvax.cs.miami.edu bsherman@pro-exchange MCI Mail: BSHERMAN

I think in your last posting you mentioned the solution. Buy a FingerPrint GSI! Why should they release the drivers on disk when they can have you buy their card and can make a lot more money on it? I realize that this is the Apple way of thinking, but I guess if Apple does it, so can everyone else...

Last sprig I purchased a DeskJet for my //c. Subsequently I had to rewrite the driver used by MousePaint so I could still use it as a graphic editor. If any one is interested in the assembly code for MousePaint printer driver for either the ImageWriter or Deskjet I can e-mail you a copy. John Adams adams@hpfela.HP.COM
