Today I received my bill for my 10Mhz Rocket Chip. BUT WHOA!! I haven't gotten it YET!!! Gee.. maybe they made a mistake (by the way, it cost $205.25). Anyways, I called up and they said for some STRANGE reason the order was processed (obviously including billing) and yet the chip was never mailed. The lady there was very nice and said since it was so long (I ordered on 9/29/89) they would ship next day air and I would have the chip tomorrow morning!!! Awesome! So the next time I log in on Thursday, be prepared for a total review of the totally updated 10Mhz Rocket Chip. I plan to have tests for the Ramworks III, SMT clock, SSC, 20 Mbyte SCSI, and floppy stuff. I hope you are now all hanging on the edge of your seats... I know I can't wait.... Someone had sent me mail about the 5Mhz and said it was terrific. Imagine 10.... (Our writer sits back for a seconds and exclaims - "WOW!!! Imagine). Anyway, I will run time tests and compatability with the Appleworks 2.0 (Had 3.0, but left it HOME! ARGH!), Publishit, Proterm, and Packing utils (Shrinkit!)... Entonces, hasta la manana.... Oh, by the way, I ordered from Quality Computing..... 1800-443-6697

Network Comment: to #1329 by ST802148%BROWNVM.BITNET@mitvma.mit.edu I have a 10 Mhz Rocket Chip now, myself. I ordered it Tuesday from Quality Computers, and was told that it would be a couple of weeks because they were out of stock. It arrived yesterday (Thursday) morning. I wonder if it's QC's policy to overestimate shipping time? (By the way, I live in Ohio, and QC's in Michigan, so even though it was shipped UPS ground it still got here in two days.) I haven't done any benchmarking on it yet, but I can tell you that PublishIt! 2 is as fast as any Mac DTP program, ProTERM simply zooms through the scrollbacak (I have a IIc with Z-RAM Ultra II giving me 260 or so scrollback), and that text editor I wrote in Applesoft and compiled with the Beagle Compiler is USABLE now! I do have a glitch with ProTERM, but it's minor. It's possible that I have a slightly defective chip; we'll have to see. Or it might just be that the Rocket Chip doesn't like being directly under my IIc's keyboard... I also managed to trash a 5.25" floppy during the installation of the RC c0onfiguration program on my bootup disk. I use Sean Nolan's SETUP.SYSTEM program to run all the programs in a SETUPS subdirectory. The RC config program doesn't like SETUP.SYSTEM. Basically, when the RC config program bombed, it wiped track zero of my boot floppy. I didn't have a backup so I spent a couple of hours retrieving a few vital data files off it. If you don't do anything fancy, like try to use SETUP.SYSTEM (which I eventually got working; E-mail me for details), you will find the Rocket Chip configuration software a vast improvement over the beta software they USED to ship, a long time ago, with their 5 Mhz chips. _____ ||___|| Jerry Kindall | Internet: jerryk@pro-tcc.cts.com | o | 2612 Queensway Drive | UUCP: nosc!crash!pro-tcc!jerryk |__O__| Grove City, OH 43123-3347 | GEnie: A2.JERRY ALine: A2 Jerry
