[comp.sys.apple] SHRConvert

DICKSON@HARTFORD.BITNET (12/08/87)

Somebody mentioned recently that, though SHR Convert will only convert single-
screen pictures, larger pictures may be chopped in half and converted
separately. Does the cutting have to be done with the original computer, or
can it be done after the file is received?

Bill,
The cutting can be done anywhere. I have downloaded a variety of Mac
pics, and by BLOADing them with TTXT as a parameter, I could successfully
separate it into as many files as I wish. When each section was converted,
a great deal of it might have appeared garbled, but some will come out ok.
Just cut that part out using 816 paint or something and paste it on.

In response to the question about whether SHRconvert dows a whole screen or not
.....there is a new version out, v1.2b2 that converts the whole picture! It wo
rks with MAC, GIF, and several other computers (not the amiga). I have already
converted a MAC picture on it with no problems. The GIF picture I tried didn't
work. But there is a hitch. This version is a Beta version and won't save
you picture, so just hope and pray that he comes out with the final version
soon. It might be possible to save the converted picture with a program like
 EA screen saver from DP2.

They have been posted a long time ago. Wait a coouple more days and if they
don't show let me know and I'll send them to you again. The netowrk
is really bogged down these days and large files are taking several days to
some through since the bostonu <==> brownvm connection has been flakey
for the last few days.

Thanks to all who sent me mail regarding the question of _saving_ pictures to
GIF format.

The answer of getting an update to Jason Harper's SHR.Convert program to
version 2.1 proved to do the trick.

Jason's program now serves my needs and as it is a shareware program for only
$15 I will be sending in the fee (Thanks Jason, if you are out there for a job
well done).

The program's new features of being able to save to GIF format and being able
to convert to grey scales make it a bargain for those of you who want to
import graphics for use on the IIgs from other brands of computers.

I've downloaded SHRconvert 2.1 to my system, but I'm having trouble running it.
Once, I've unblued it, I run SHRcon.finder. The system then crashes. One
problem, which I've fixed, is that the file come out of the unblu process
with incorrect names. However, even with the correct names it won't run.

Are you using SHRConvert with GS/OS 3.0? Again mercilessly cribbing from the
gurus on America Online (plug, plug :), you should run SHRConvert instead of
the SHRCONV.FINDER file. If you are using GS/OS 2.0, you should run
SHRCONV.FINDER.

I think I know your problem. When you try to run SHRCONVERT.FINDER, it goes
kablooey. If you insist on using 5.0, just run the shrconvert.sys16 program
directly. Running the finder program should be okey dokey under system 3.x
and 4.x though.

Does anyone know if Jason Harper is working on an upgrade to SHRConvert?
I'm particularly interested if he's added an Amiga IFF convert to it.
Any responses please send them to

                         roy@shumv1.ncsu.edu

Thanks.
