Since I'm new to all the 'NET' bussiness, can someone tell
me more about or how to contact either Usenet or Bitnet?

Thanks in advance,

John Withers

Would you believe 'Usenet' is NOT a NET?! Usenet is a list distribution
service that runs on UUCP which is sort of a net (using an obsolescent
definition of a net :-). UUCP really is a communications protocol, but
systems which agree to exchange mail with one another using that protocol
are generally referred to as UUCP. Pro-Carolina IS a UUCP site (actually,
it uses a protocol which can exchange mail with a host running Unix, but
it IS listed in the UUCP map).

Your sysop, Don Elton, is the most authoritative source on EXACTLY how
you can send mail to BITNET (he sends me mail from time to time - empirical
verification :-); I believe it's something like:
  crash!nosc!rutgers!nodename.bitnet!username

Yeah, easiest way to send something to bitnet from a proline is to use the
address: user@node.bitnet where 'node' is the name of the bitnet node. i.e.
the University of South Carolina here in Columbia would be UNIVSCVM.bitnet if
I remember correctly.

>From within a ProLine site, getting out to BITNET is even easier than what you
have listed, Murphy. Instead of

        crash!nosc!rutgers!nodename.bitnet!username

this will work just as well in most cases:

        username@nodename.BITNET

For example:

        SEWALL@UCONNVM.BITNET

--Morgan

Oh good, a 'smart' mailer. Someone at one of the pro-lines expressed some
frustration about constructing a path to BITNET a few months ago. Perhaps
the problem was transient (I've noted that recently more an more pro-lines
are routing mail to the Internet via Massachusettes rather than Southern
California; something could have gone temporarily awry during the changeover).

Now if BITNET's mailers can get fixed so they can find there way back
without help :-)

Looking for recommendations concerning a reasonably priced (make that CHEAP;
$60 or less) 80 column card for an APPLE ][+.... One that possibly -you- have
used in the past and have been satisfied with. I've noticed at least three in
various ads that meet my price range but have no way of knowing just how good
of a job they might do. All replies appreciated... and speed <have to have one
by November 24th> is of the essence...

Thanks in advance!
