[comp.sys.apple] Apple Inc. & Macintosh Inc.

You know, the more I think about the idea of diverging the two families, the
more it has its appealing aspects. In the beginning of the Mac, the
Apple // overshadowed it. Now, the opposite is true.

Whomever brought up the analogy of General Motors and its divisions
had the right concept. It is fairly clear that Apple Computer Inc.'s
main push is for the Macintosh; no flames, just think about this: In
the past year, I have seen 4 new Mac CPUs introduced, with the high
end model capable of going up against high-end workstations priced
twice as much. How many // series CPUs? Uhm, well, not even one.
(Apple itself doesn't say that the ROM 3 is a new cpu)

Nice idea, but would it ever work? Who knows? (Boy, isn't it fun to
contemplate the impossible? :) I think, however, that something
should be done, and soon, for the // series to continue to live
prosperously, as it were. I'd like to see some ideas lifted from the
Mac, like the concept of a 72dpi screen, Nubus slots, multiple
screens. Hmm.. but then again, this could be accomplished with a
good, well-thought, merger of the two species.

Hmm.. rambling onward, ever onward, till something better comes along....
