[comp.sys.apple] Appletalk Printing Prob.

cw2b+@andrew.cmu.edu (Christopher Alan White) (11/10/89)

This another call for help concerning printing over appletalk to a LaserPrinter.Since my last posting, I have jumped into this headlong. My problem is as
follows...When printing through any GS application which uses the normal
Print Manager (under gsos 5.0) I can recieve one (status:idle) or whatever and
then the Print Manager drops back to the calling routine stating error
$1309 - cannot open pap connection. I am located at Carnegie-Mellon University
on a very large phonenet network. I have tryed printing from other locations on campus and have had a fairly high success rate. This
printing was done using my software on a machine connected in the same zone but
under differing physical connections (ie. a different star controller and Kbox).I also have tryed using the remote print manager with the Flags set to $80,
meaning no postscript emulator. Basically it looks to me like the PM is not
recieving status packets from the printer in it's alloted amount of time. It
seems as though it gets one packet, displays the status and then dies while
waiting for the next...First of all, can anyone help me out here? Second, can
anyone point me in the right direction as to where I might get info concerning
how the PM interacts with appletalk..(I already have the Tbox manuals and
Appleshare Programmers guide to the the IIGS.)

                                           Thanks for the help....
                                            Chris

P.S. My appletalk connection has been tested with a Mac, and the Mac could
print....Why would Apple design the gs's routines any different then the Macs'
code?
