Regarding the constant request for common information, Andy McFadden suggests: | Anyway, I think this is a good idea. What I would suggest is making | the Great Comp.sys.apple File Transfer Stuff File, which would include | (but is not necessarily limited to): [...stuff deleted...] And I agree with him. Some form of 'New User Orientation' documentation would be nice to have done up. I think all newsgroups should have something like this. I am sure that there would be several answers in this to questons that I have, but won't post simply because I *know* it has been asked many times before, and I'll just wait till I see somebody else ask it and get an answer. This 'readme' file would contain the generic operations information that would cover the general usage of this newsgroup. But what about those questions that are 'time' oriented (eg: "Whats the latest version of the System Disk, what's new on it, and where can I get a copy?") should also be addressed perhaps, but in a different fashion. How about an 'OnLine' Newsletter? If some brave soul (Doug?) would want to take the time to be the 'editor' of such a beast, this could be updated once every couple months or so, and available as either a downloadable file, or automatically eMailed to specific sites/users (I currently am getting something similar to this for both TeX and OS/2). This newsletter could contain: A) Answers to 'Anticipated' questions. B) Answers to actual questions that have been asked. C) 'Articles' that cover news on the Apple II line. D) Ads (???) from companies who want their new software anounced. All of these things could be submitted to the editor, who simply gathers them, formats them in some nice way, makes them available, then puts a quick notice on the net on where it can be found. Perhaps this setup could even be extended to cover direct user support. Rather then the befuddled user/programmer posting a simple question to the net, they could submit it to the newsletter. The editor would either realize that this is a good question for inclusion as an article, or would simply directly answer the question personally, or perhaps pass it on to one of their 'specialists' that has volunteered to provide assitance. -Robert __________________________________________________________________________ ##### ####### | Robert B.
