When I first heard that the Apple II division was going to spin off from Apple computer, I thought this was pure nonsense. What could possibly be gained from the split? I can't imagine the mess this would create with most Apple Dealers. But, how come Apple decided to ship tech notes seperately this month? Eg. Mac developers only get Mac tech notes, II developers only get II tech notes. I imagine a good reason would be the great number of people joining each month. But, then again...Apple also gives small signs every time they do something strange. Would this happen to be one of those signs? Would this be a purely monitary motivation, or is something hidden in this change in policy? scott hutinger mmpr004@ecncdc.bitnet

If they cut all of the mac mailings to Apple II developers, then they could also cut the expenses and thus the cost of being a developer.. Of course, on the other hand, there are developers that develop for both systems, and they would need to have both types of tech notes. Only time will tell, but I suggest meanwhile that no one jump to any quick conclusions.. I'm sure whatever is to be will all come out in the wash sooner or later.. -- bsherman@mthvax.cs.miami.edu | bsherman@pro-exchange | MCI MAIL: BSHERMAN >> Miami's Big Apple - 305-948-8000 - 24 hours - 300/1200 - PCP'able << >> Oldest Apple support board in Southeast. At AppleFest and Kansas Fest the developers told Apple they didn't need the Mac tech notes and that Apple was wasting money sending them out to Apple II only developers. It looks like they listened. The Apple II developers were looking for ways to get tech support without having to pay $650. Since the II developers don't get as much support they think their fee should be less. This change in policy was suggested by the Developers Association(the group of developers that was formed at Applefest) to Apple at Applefest. The thought was if Apple makes tech notes separate then Apple can reduce the cost of becoming an Apple II developer. Right now the $600 fee may be too high for some people (like college students) to get Developer type support. By separating the support we don't have to get all the Mac garbage and throw it away thus making it cheaper. Hopefully we'll see Apple implement some of the other ideas brought up by this group. But I don't think the splitting of support represents a split in the company....Apple Co. makes too much from the II to get rid of it. mikes@shumv1.ncsu.edu <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Michael Steele mikes@shumv1.ncsu.edu mikes@ccvr1.ncsu.edu ALINK: MikeSteele mikes@ncsuvx.ncsu.edu BITNET: netoprms@ncsuvm.bitnet
