In response to several posts regarding the (in)compatilbility of the Apple Personal Modem: >.... The Apple Personal Modem is Hayes comaptible. I agree. I had no problems with Hayes compatibility (or lack thereof) in four years of use of an Apple Personal Modem. If the particular comms program did not offer a specific configuration option for the modem, the generic Hayes 1200 bps option worked just fine. In fact, my roommate at the time used it on his Tandy 1000 running CrossTalk without a hint of problems until he got his own modem. >It may be able to do an ATDTnumber but it sure can't run a BBS. True also; however, for most people, not being able to run a BBS is not a consideration. In general, the Apple Personal Modem is a fine piece of hardware: reliable, easy to use, & it doesn't take up a slot (in a GS), or any precious desk space (since it plugs directly into a wall outlet). If the price is reasonable and 1200 bps is sufficient for one's purposes, it would be a good addition to one's system. Just the thoughts of a former Apple Personal Modem owner who only moved on to a different modem because he needed 4800/9600 bps to communicate with his office's Wang VS/OIS system....
