[comp.sys.apple] Apple IIe PAL

sb@pro-generic.cts.com (Stephen Brown) (11/13/89)

The PAL (or HAL) in an Apple IIe consitutes 90% of the timing generator for
the entire computer. I have noticed both 341-0170-A's and 342-0170-A's. Is
there any difference. Both of these work in a Rev. "B" board.

Also, the schematics for the IIe show a place for SA1 and VA1, presumably
Sound Amplifier and Video Amplifier, respectively. Were these put in for a
reason. The OSC1 place on the schematic can be filled with an Crystal
Oscillator (as long as the trace to the onboard 14 Mhz oscillator is cut). Are
there sound amp and video amp modules that can replace the components on the
board in these sections?

Are there any differences in the IOU/MMU/or PAL in the new "Platinum" IIe's,
or is the only major motherboard difference the use of 64Kx4 RAM?

Thanks in advance to whoever can answer these questions.
