[comp.sys.apple] // life and death

interesting buzz going around the network. I think belittling the 'Mac does
not encourage support of the Apple //. They are different machines for
different users. I have a //e that does pretty much everything I could want
it to do. I recently had the option of picking up an XT clone very
inexpensively from a friend that would have more memory and yes, more real
power than my current system. But for my purposes the //e is still a
wonderfully versatile machine, and I don't feel the need for 16 or 32 bits.
The // line is a PERSONAL computer. That's not it's only application, but
thats where it excels. Macs seem to me to be business computers. Certainly
they would be wonderfull for home use, but much more than overkill.
Culturally, I think we tend to always be seeking out those products that are
overkill. Witness the superexotic sportscars that are drooled over when the
speed limit is 65 at most. I say, lets fit the system to it's application. I
hope the // line (and not just the GS) continues to enjoy software support
despite it's limitations. Maybe it is time for a change of leadership in that
end.
