[comp.sys.apple] Test Drive an Apple

UD182050@VM1.NODAK.EDU (Mike Aos) (11/13/89)

This deal does indeed incluide the IIgs. A friend of mine went and picked one
up on Friday. He loves it. I havn't played with it much (I've been working
all weekend), but he claims nearly all my games DON'T work on his Rom 3 GS.
Is it that incompatible? He's an avid IIe user, and perhaps he was doing
something wrong..what, I couldn't tell ya. I'll check it out in the future.

Mike

BTW-He also picked up a Mac SE keyboard. I can't exactly put my finger on it
(hey, is that a pun?), but it just feels more "professional" than a normal
IIgs keybard. Anyone know why this might be? Also, why does Apple bother to
produce to seperate keyboards? Seems like it would be more cost-effective to
just produce the Mac one ('cause I think I like it better...although I cleaned
mine today, and it improved immesurably)

Oh, and another thing. When I took apart my keyboard to clean it, I took EVERY
THING I could off (not just keycaps), and noticed that internally, those
ADB connectors are pretty flimsy. It seems, though, that it would be VERY
easy to fix any problems that develop in the plug. It all looked very basic
and straight-forward.

Sorry, but as I'm thinking of it (it's a quarter to 6:00am) is the Mac
keyboard cable thicker? Or are all ADB cables thicker than they were? I have
a Woz GS, and it sure seems to me that this keyboard cable looks thinner...
(this is totally irrelevant...I was just curious)

I just go that nifty promotional material you guys were talking about. I
already typed most of this message, but I accidently hit CLS, and nuked it.
So, once again...

"A while back, you made what I'm sure you've come to regard as a very smart
business decision."

[stuph deleted]

"For example, you may be ready for a faster Apple computer that handles a
broader range of applications. Or you may just want to enjoy more of the same
good thing: another Apple like your present one."

They then go on to say what systems qualify, and they DON'T mention the IIgs.
There's a buncha stuff here, and it ALL deals with the Mac(s). Then at the
VERY bottom, in the real small print, where they say whose name is a trademark
of who, they mention that you CAN get a GS on the same deal. This is pathetic!

Sure, I want a FASTER Apple that handles a broader range of applications...and
I want it to be an APPLE II(xyz). NOT a Mac.

Whoa! UNTRUE!

I too received the literature today and because of all the fuss decided to
read it.

First of all you get a four page letter (2 double sided sheets of paper),
a glossy folder showing various screens and a "SAVE THIS CARD" card.

THE LETTER:

The very first time ANY computer is mentioned is the bottom of the
second pageand the IIgs is FIRST.

Half way down the third page is a paragraph on the IIgs.

GLOSSY BROUCHER:

Second screen is a IIgs screen and a paragraph which starts out
    With the Apple IIgs . . .

At the bottom of the flyer is a picture of the IIgs with the Mac Plus,
    SE and SE/30.

SAVE THIS CARD

Twice on the front and once on the back is the statement to the affect
    that the following computer qualify

    	Apple IIgs, Macintosh Plus, etc,

This whole conversation has been funny up to now, but my god we have a
bunch of paranoid people on this feed! If we could only challenge that
energy into a more positive fashion we would really have some clout.

Chris,
Me thinks either your glasses need stronger lenses, or else you got a letter
with many words that do not appear in other letters such as the one I got..

On the glossy folder, there is NO mention anywhere on the front of it of the
GS, and the four machines shown on the bottom all have funny looking slots
built into their bodies, the likes of which I have never seen on any GS..

There is NO mention of the GS anywhere within the letter content on the four
pages over the signature of Allan Loren..

And the plot thickens!!!!
