I know this a little out of line, since it isn't specific to Aii's, but that's the only broad digest I bother to read. Could someone tell me if there is a standard for 9600 baud modems and if so which of the current ones meet it? (Actually, the ONLY 9600 baud modem I've seen advertized is the U.S. Robotics Courier 9600 HST, and, incidentally, I've only seen it in Aii mags, not Mac mags.) Do some 9600's have error correction and some not, or is error correction instrinsic to the modulation/coding scheme used to get that rate? (I'm guessing that it is.) (I've done some back of the envelope calculations and find that I would be better off using 9600 baud and direct distance dialing rather than staying with PC Pursuit at 2400 baud. At least with my current mix of prime/non-prime usage.) Thanks. and, p.s., thanks to the apple folks for picking up the list -- it did seem the natural thing to do and I have to admire the forebearance of everyone else for waiting for them to volunteer rather than to suggest it to them. In-Reply-To: message from TMPLee@DOCKMASTER.NCSC.MIL Are you getting mailing lists or uucp groups? The uucp group for this question is probably comp.dcom.modems or comp.protocols.misc. For mailing lists, I know there is an info- something, but am not sure what it is. -- Larry W.
