[comp.sys.apple] Help w/Hard Disk Backup

trd10523@uxa.cso.uiuc.edu (11/22/89)

Help! I have been using a 5 meg Profile with my Apple //e for six years. I
have been using Backup // as a backup program the entire time. Three weeks
ago, I got a 1 meg //gs. I proceeded to install the Profile on the //gs
(yes, I do have the right version of the interface card ROM) and everything
is great. EXCEPT, Backup // no longer works since system 5.0 uses the
extended file type (which ProDOS 8 chokes on). Thus, Backup // returns
the message "UNSUPPORTED STORAGE TYPE" and aborts. I got a new copy of the
Apple // SCSI Utilities Disk, which has a 1985 version of Backup // on it,
and I still have the same problem.

The question is this: Has anyone out there fixed Backup (or P8) to make it
work? Or, can someone recommend a new backup program that either runs under
P8 AND reads extended files, OR a program that runs under GS/OS (16 bit)?

Please e-mail replies, since I don't read this newsgroup regularly (but I'll
try).

Apple was reminded of this at Applefest in SF. From the people I talked
to I think they are going to try to fix it. Can any of the apple folk
confirm or deny this?
